Demoreel Review
filmreel
This was an interesting reel in my opinion, abit longer than usual, but it had a good variety of what the artist could do. I think what made it s long was the repetition of skills he had. for example he had over five different shots demonstrating how good his establishing shots were.
Digitalmedia reel
I was humbled as well by this one because it showed how beautifully one should incorporate their design elements into their name and introduction. It made it interesting to look at plus it was a chance for the artist to show what he could do with animating words. The overall mix of reality and 3d and some 2D animation was seamless and very solid in my opinion.
deliverymen reel
This reel was most compelling to me because it was a narrative driven reel. It showed all the skills that the artist had i.e variety of shots and cutting on action but at the same time it came together as a small story. Not a completely believable one, but interesting enough to keep you watching through the whole reel. The sound was also well meshed with the reel and it worked well all together.
Digitalmediareel
This one was also very compelling however, the bit of film work they have at the start doesn't belong in the piece. I think to create unity in the demo reel, those few shots could go.
evolvefilmreel
This one was too slow for me. I felt like I was waiting too long for it to build up. And the few times there was a build up, it was way too short. I think there were a number of strong shots, just not composed well enough.
antimediareel
This one was perfect apart from how it ended!!! Everything else was compelling but the end just didn't do it for me. I think there were a lot more well composed shots that could have been used to wrap it up but instead, it felt too abrupt. I still think its pretty strong though.
In general reels are very short. 2 minutes at most. Shots within the reel are only 2 seconds long, very rarely will you find one thats more than 4 seconds. The shots go well together, they are cut on action and they structure the best shots at the start and at the end of the reel.

Meeting with Carrie
It was a pleasant meeting with Carrie. She looked over the resume and gave me a few tips on how to expand on my skills when approached in person. She also mentioned that the different kinds of experience should be separated just so an employer could find what they're looking for. She suggested that the film I made, The Hunt for Cupid should have more unpacking in terms of which festivals I've submitted it to etc. I asked her about internship opportunities and she directed me to the website where I could find available internships.

revisions
Tried to keep the character more consistent by using basic shapes in maya and rotating that as a blue print.

Character Assignment
Eye wants to destroy all who erase anything on the chalk world.
He wants this because his head was erased.
He needs love/acceptance.
Eye was once a happy fully drawn character, but after his
head was erased, he had to scavenge through the ditches of chalk land to find
an eye to replace his head. He has been bitter ever since towards the students.
He feels like he must have his revenge. He also feels obligated to convince
other chalkdrawings that all creators are evil and don’t care about them. He
really needs to feel accepted again. By anyone.

Place
Whenever I think about places or spaces I think about energy. That's what defines it. What gives the space the energy is a complicated network of
Objects that are in the space
People who've interacted with the objects and also the space itself
Why the space was created
Who created/built the space
Therefore when I think about coming up with a space I think of the places that have struck me mostly emotionally without any particular event or situation that guided the feeling. For instance if I walked into a field with dead cows and goats I would immediately associate the location with death or sorrow, while if the space was cleared of all the corpses an I felt a particular energy, I wouldn't know exactly know what to relate it to. So here are some objects that have intrigued me the most over the years. That Ive thought of so far.
Blackboards(chalkboards)
Tools (hammers, nails)
Trees/plants
Animal waste/mud
Rocks
old clothing/curtains
Since I'm thinking about the energy in objects and spaces I wanted to experiment with stripping down the objects to their most basic form. Almost like an x-ray to see their souls. So i decided to use ink and stick sketches.
